Sustainability and Handmade & Well Paid Campaign
Sustainability
As a small, independent jeweller working from my own workshop in rural Lincolnshire, sustainability sits at the heart of my practice. Wherever possible, I work with recycled precious metals, reducing the environmental impact associated with new mining. All gemstones are ethically sourced, with suppliers selected for their transparency and responsible standards.
My small-scale working approach allows me to create thoughtfully and with minimal waste. Precious metal remnants and by-products from the making process are carefully recovered and re-integrated into future designs wherever appropriate, ensuring materials are respected and fully utilised. Each piece is made using traditional techniques that prioritise quality, longevity, and repairability.
I am continuously driven to reduce my environmental impact while creating jewellery designed to be worn, loved, and treasured for a lifetime.
Handmade & Well Paid
If you are buying handmade work it can be hard to know what is a fair price to pay for a piece.
Most customers want to know they are not being overcharged for the work they are buying but also that the maker can get a fair wage for the work that they do.
If the maker you are buying from displays the ‘Handmade & Well Paid’ badge you can be assured that they have learnt how to price their work for a sustainable business and have signed the pledge to value their work and their customers with an accurate pricing model that is a win, win for both.
You can find out a little more about the campaign set up by The Jewellers Academy below…
Handmade & Well Paid is a campaign to help ensure makers are well paid for the work they do whilst helping customers to make good decisions about which makers to buy from.
Makers need a sustainable income in order to keep running their businesses and making their crafts.
Customers value and admire the work of handmade artists and want to support them fairly to ensure they are making a good living wage for themselves.
To support both sides - maker and customer, help us spread the word and get makers well paid and customers feeling confident about buying wonderful handmade work
